The Emergency Medicine Physician at the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System delivers high-quality healthcare in the Emergency Department. This role includes providing clinical care, supervising medical trainees, and collaborating with healthcare teams while ensuring compliance with established protocols and quality assurance standards. The physician is also involved in education, research activities, and serves as a liaison to the EMS community.

The Emergency Department Physician is assigned to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, Emergency Department, providing comprehensive, efficient, compassionate, high quality healthcare to all patients, functioning as a member of the Emergency Department team providing clinical care to the patients at VASNHCS in an Emergency Department setting. As an Emergency Department Physician, the responsibilities include delivery of effective, timely and high quality medical care to patients both in the ED and throughout the hospital, in collaboration with other members of the health care team. Supervision and education of Internal Medicine Residents and medical students from the University of Nevada, School of Medicine, is required.

The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

• Development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, EAS protocols, medical care quality review, supervision of paramedics and a paramedic supervisor.
• Responsible for initial and ongoing training / onboarding of paramedics
• Acting as a liaison to the EMS community.
• Working in collaboration with the paramedic supervisor, ED Service Chief, other VHA Service Chiefs and the Executive Leadership Team.
• Participate in an effective clinical program with attention to patient outcome indicators.
• Practice within the scope of assigned privileges.
• Comply with the bylaws, rules and regulations of the facility and agency.
• Meet medical staff criteria for initial appointment and reappointment, including ongoing CME.
• Comply with prescribed record keeping practices in accordance with the rules, regulations, and bylaws.
• Comply with prescribed information security policy and procedures.
• Interpersonal relationships - works effectively with patients, families, staff, co-workers and other health care professionals.
• Participates in Emergency Department educational activities and scheduled meetings.
• Participates in research activities with regard to the subspecialty of Emergency Medicine, as assigned.
• Comply with assigned administrative duties (Peer Reviews, Health Record Reviews, etc.) and maintaining quality assurance standards.
• Performs regular quality reviews of ambulance diversions / paramedic calls and reports.
