Job description

The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office is not your average law enforcement agency.

Behind the walls of our facilities in Western Massachusetts, our firm but fair approach to corrections has been emulated across the country and changed countless lives for the better. We provide empathy and opportunity to all who come under our care and custody with the aim of uplifting individuals and their families.

Our Public Health Model for Correctional Health Care values wellness, treatment of disease, prevention of illness, and access to care during and after incarceration. The justice-involved population gets professional medical and mental health care while incarcerated, and we work to have a seamless transition to continue that care in the community post-release.

If you want to help make the world a better place by ensuring the justice-involved population gets the best medical and mental health services anywhere, please consider joining our team!

The Hampden County Sheriff's Office is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly qualified Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our Health Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled practitioner to make a meaningful impact while enjoying a rewarding career in a stable and supportive environment.

  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures: Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures traditionally handled by physicians, ensuring a high standard of patient care.
  • Addiction Medicine Collaboration: Work closely with addiction specialists and community health providers to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including acute withdrawal management and addiction stabilization.
  • Continuity of Care: Assist in transitioning patients to residential treatment facilities and ensure seamless continuity of care upon reentry into the community.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in team meetings with physicians, nurses, mental health clinicians, and addiction specialists to optimize patient care and treatment strategies.
  • Medical Record Maintenance: Maintain meticulous medical records to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • OTP Implementation: Possess familiarity with common practices of an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in accordance with state guidelines. Prescribe pharmaceuticals in accordance with established MAT guidelines, including experience with all three FDA approved medications for MAT for OUD, including buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone. Assesses a patient’s physical and psychosocial health status through obtaining the health and illness history and performing a physical exam that incorporates MAT guidelines.

Why Join Us?

At the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office, we offer a highly competitive salary and an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, retirement options, paid time off, and more. This is your opportunity to be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team where your expertise in medical and addiction care will be valued and appreciated. We believe in providing the tools, resources, and environment for you to thrive and grow professionally.

Work Schedule:

Current shift: Monday-Friday with one Saturday per month and rotating shared on-call coverage; must be able to work any shift as directed
