Primary Role
Immediate opening for a Groundskeeper who can help support the school's Maintenance Department by being a member of a hard-working team while engaging in ongoing maintenance of safe, clean, and attractive outdoor areas. They perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of the De La Salle High School grounds and landscapes. This includes operating electrically-powered and gasoline-powered groundskeeping equipment and machines, as well as using small hand and power tools for planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping. The majority of the duties are performed outside.
Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of outdoor areas in and around the plant facilities.
Keep supplies, tools, and equipment in proper condition and repair.
Plants grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers.
Dig trenches and levels the ground.
Keeps outdoor furniture clean and in good repair.
Applies mulch, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning.
Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees.
Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, leaf-blowers, tillers, and tractors.
Qualifications
Ability to follow detailed instructions
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors and coworkers

Problem-solving skills
Self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously
Possess a driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles
High School diploma preferred
Previous groundskeeping or landscaping experience preferred
Minimal computer skills preferred
Requires knowledge of several job-related trades, basic tools, materials, and terminology, and an understanding of the use of various chemicals and methods used in the maintenance of the school campus.
Ability to perform prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, or kneeling for the duration of the 8-hour shift.
Continuously uses hand strength to grasp objects and tools and operate service equipment.
Must regularly lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in inclement weather.
