This is a permanent, part time position. The position is responsible for planning and preparing culturally diverse meals on a daily basis for Malaika Early Learning Center participants in accordance with guidelines set by the Child and Adult Care Food Program, Department of Children and Families (DCF) Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers and recommendations of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The work hours are 7 : 00am to 2 : 00pm Monday through Friday.
Duties
Ensure compliance with all aspects of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Health Code Guidelines, Department of Public Instruction regulations, DCF Licensing Rules, Head Start, and NAEYC criterion in food production, process and documentation.
Support the planning of compliant monthly menus and other meals based on inventory, cultural diversity and special dietary needs of participants ( eg : allergies, religious beliefs, etc.) with support from the Malaika staff, food vendor and within budgetary guidelines.
Preparations of meals that are provided by food vendors.
Support classroom staff in nutrition education.
Ensure the entire kitchen meets cleanliness standards which includes assisting with dishes / cleaning and that all equipment is properly maintained.
Maintain appropriate status with the City of Milwaukee Health Department.
Removal of old and outdated food and products.
Maintain annual training requirements.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of experience in menu planning and preparation and inventory control
Excellent attendance record
ServSafe Certification (may be obtained within 60 days of employment)
Ability to support the planning and preparation of healthy, delicious meals within budgetary guidelines
Flexibility and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail
Some computer skills necessary
Must be able to stand for long periods of time when needed as well as lift at least 50lbs.
