Job Responsibilities:
- Inspect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Prevent and apprehend undocumented individuals and smugglers, utilizing surveillance techniques and advanced technology.
- Categorize and follow physical evidence of illegal entries to enhance border security.
- Conduct various types of checks including farm, city, and transportation checks.
- Patrol international boundaries using diverse government assets, such as vehicles, vessels, and ATVs.
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with at least three years of primary U.S. residency in the last five years.
- Age requirement: candidates must be referred for selection before their 40th birthday unless exempt.
- A combination of general work experience or educational qualifications, including a bachelor’s degree, is required depending on the grade level you are applying for.
- Previous law enforcement or military experience may qualify you for higher grade levels.
Training:
Upon hiring, you will attend an intensive six-month training program at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, covering compliance laws, law enforcement operations, physical tactics, and firearms training. Spanish proficiency will also be included in your training.
