Job description

Be an integral part of a growing family medicine department at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. The Department of Family & Community Medicine is seeking innovative and dynamic individuals to join their group of dedicated faculty. The Department of Family and Community Medicine has a new chairman with the vision to create a strong, nationally recognized department.

Assistant Instructor – Community Medicine Fellow

Care for patients assigned in the Parkland Family Medicine Clinic under supervision of FM faculty and Community Medicine teachers

Teach innovative population-based health care practices (such as Shared Medical Appointments) to residents / faculty in the department of Family Medicine

Perform community-based participatory research projects involving community partners, gathering and analyzing data and disseminating the results in local and national professional meetings.

Collaborate in service learning opportunities among underserved population in the Dallas County area.

Take a leadership role in quality assurance activities in the Family Medicine Clinic to evaluate effectiveness of new and existing practice models

Attend regional and national meetings for presentations and networking.

Travel to community resource sites in the community to develop a network for CBPR research and activities.

Supervise FM residents in the Parkland Family Medicine Clinic (junior preceptor)

Present community-based research findings in university-wide Grand Rounds presentation.

Participate in the Faculty Development Academic Activities in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UTSW. These activities include clinical teaching, curricular design, presentation skills, professional academic development and research / scholarly activity skills.

The fellow has the option of obtaining a Certificate in Public Health (CPH) which would be a 12 month fellowship, or a Master in Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) from the UT School of Public Health Dallas Regional Campus which could be a 12 or 24 month fellowship depending on whether the fellow already has a CPH.

Qualifications : excellent clinical skills, M.D. or D.O. degree, eligibility for or certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or equivalent qualifications in family medicine and Texas medical licensure
