Whitaker Construction, founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.
Role Summary : The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is a pivotal role, responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and executing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs on various heavy equipment in the field. This role demands proficiency in operating industry-specific machinery while ensuring all assigned tasks are completed accurately and within specified timelines.
Key Responsibilities :
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues in heavy equipment.
- Maintain and rebuild diverse construction machinery.
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment using specialized tools.
- Assess parts for wear and damage.
- Repair or replace major components within engines, transmissions, steering, etc.
- Conduct repairs within cooling, braking, steering, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Test overhauled equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Utilize welding, brazing, and fabricating techniques for equipment modification or repair.
- Document work orders, warranty information, and maintain accurate time sheets.
- Continuously learn and improve technical skills through training sessions.
