Job Summary : The News Director develops and implements news strategy and business objectives. Sets the culture and tone of the news department defining and maintaining ethical, legal and journalistic standards. Coordinates the news and information content across multiple platforms. Recruits, interviews, and hires newsroom employees and provides routine critiques of the product created. Supervises the production of newscasts including story selection, presentation techniques, and editorial decisions.
Required Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in broadcast communication, telecommunication and film, or journalism and six (6) years of news operations experience to include two (2) years of news personnel and operating budget management; OR master's degree in broadcast communication, telecommunication and film, or journalism and four (4) years of news operations experience to include two (2) years of news personnel and operating budget management.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications : Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge : Working knowledge of all aspects of a local news department. Ability to research, write, report, and produce news stories for broadcast and digital platforms. Proficiency in the operation of a personal computers. Exceptional verbal, writing, interviewing, planning, and organizational skills.
