The Dispatcher for TU Security position is skilled emergency service work that involves receiving emergency and non-emergency requests for public safety services, determining the nature / urgency of calls, initiating security or other emergency personnel action and maintaining close contact with field units to monitor response and needed support requirements.The part-time dispatcher will report directly to the Communications Lead.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities) :
- Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency situations including calls from the public, University offices, Security Officers, and other emergency service agencies via the telephone, radio systems, and computer.
- Processes and evaluates information received and prioritizes calls and dispatches required patrol officers and / or other emergency service agencies.
- Monitors and coordinates activities and assignments of Security Officers and other Security personnel via radio and Security computer systems.
- Maintains status and location of all on-duty Security Officers and other Security personnel.
- Utilizes and monitors technology such as computers, radio systems, telephones, fire alarms, intrusion / panic alarms, surveillance cameras, emergency broadcast and text messaging systems and other communication equipment.
- Send emergency message notifications when needed.
- Creates and maintains automated or manual logs of public safety communications activity.
- Accesses and enters sensitive information in universitydatabases as necessary for investigative purposes, or University related business.
- Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information created and encountered in the performance of their assigned duties.
- Stays informed of all Department regulations, memorandums, policies and procedures.
- Stays abreast of all events that are occurring on campus during their assigned shift, paying particular attention to those events that attract large crowds.
- Advises the on-coming Communications Center Dispatchers and other Department personnel of all service calls and environmental conditions relative to the campus and its community, to facilitate the continuity of the Department’s operations.
- Provides general campus information to the public via telephone inquiries.
- Complies with all rules and regulations of the Federal Communication Commission.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Communications Lead, Assistant Director or Director of TU Security.

Physical Demands The Dispatcher position requires the physical stamina to sit for extended periods of time and be able to focus on information coming in from multiple sources including phone calls, officer’s radio calls, emails, and direct information from officers or department leaders. Ability to multitask and prioritize actions based on information received.
