Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications to establish a pool for part-time associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments are temporary, part-time or on-call. This job posting is not for a specific assignment or for a full-time faculty position, but rather to establish a pool of candidates who may be considered for part-time faculty assignments.

ABOUT SRJC :

Santa Rosa Junior College has been an integral part of the Sonoma County community and its rich history, beauty and culture for more than 100 years.

SRJC is a public two-year community college, which serves the County of Sonoma and portions of Marin and Mendocino counties. The has two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, California, two centers, a Public Safety Training Center located in Windsor, California, and the Robert Shone Agricultural Center located in Forestville, California, and our newest site in the Roseland area of the City of Santa Rosa. Students may choose from over 100 associate degree majors and certificate programs, complete courses toward the first two years of a bachelor's degree pursue courses for other professional or personal reasons.

  • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and / or off-campus assignments.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.

    Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

    Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.

    Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and / or student services.

    Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

    SELECTION PROCESS :

    Candidates who are recommended for the pool after committee interviews will be added to the pool for disciplines interviewed and deemed qualified for (screening / interviewing committees will confirm disciplines that candidates are qualified for).

    Applications are accepted for associate faculty pools on a continuous basis. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year.

    If selected for interview, candidates will be invited to interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. The Committee may include representatives consisting of Faculty, Administrators, and Classified Professionals. Students may also participate in the committee selection process as determined by the Screening and Interviewing Committee. For candidates who are recommended for the pool, references will be checked at any point beyond the committee interview. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for four years.

    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION :

    The Agriculture / Natural Resources department at Santa Rosa Junior College is made up of eight contract and over sixty-five associate instructors teaching over 2,500 students.

    It is the largest community college agriculture program in California, and has been recognized as an Outstanding Agriculture Community College Program by the California Agriculture Teachers Association (CATA).

    The Agriculture / Natural Resources department includes 11 diversified program areas with over 20 different degrees and certificates serving the needs of career-focused and transfer students. The Department also includes a dedicated hands-on learning laboratory in Shone Farm, a 365-acre diversified farm in the Russian River Valley. Shone Farm includes 120 acres of forest, 100 acres of pasture for various livestock herds, 90 acres of vineyard, 12 acres for crop production, 4 acres of olive and apple trees, and 39 acres of buildings and improvements. Shone Farm also features a bonded winery that produces award-winning wine, and a large agricultural pavilion for classes, events, and equestrian activities. Altogether, it is one of the largest agriculture sites in the California Community Colleges system, and a place where SRJC students learn commercial production techniques that prepare them for the workplace or transfer to a four-year university.

    Minimum Qualifications

    REQUIRED FOR ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE (FLORAL DESIGN) :

    Bachelor's degree AND two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; OR an Associate's degree AND six years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Consumer & Family Education or Decorative Arts & Related Technologies or Ornamental Horticulture.

    Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications exactly as listed above for disciplines of interest, or they must file for in order to be considered.
