Gonzaga UniversitySPOKANE, WashingtonGonzaga Athletics is seeking applications for a new member in our sports performance team. This position is responsible to plan, implement, administer, and supervise the strength and conditioning program for assigned Gonzaga University varsity athletic teams.
Essential Functions
Strength and Conditioning
- Serve as the primary strength and conditioning coach for assigned sports that are subject to change on a yearly basis.
- Develop, implement, and supervise approved comprehensive strength and conditioning programs to optimize student-athlete performance.
- Work closely with the coaching staff to understand performance goals and expectations of their student-athletes.
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Health and Performance
- Trainer to ensure strength and conditioning programs align with treatment plans for injured student-athletes.
- Provide individual, small group and team instruction related to strength and conditioning activities.
- Works in coordination with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Health and
- Performance to identify facility and program needs and initiate and develop plans and projects to meet those needs.
- Assists with student-athlete nutrition education and monitoring as directed by the
- Assistant Director of Athletics for Health and Performance and third-party vendor.
- Ensures adequate maintenance and appearance of all areas under supervision and ensures equipment is maintained at all times.
- Ensures all operations are conducted with safety as the first priority, in accordance to the University’s safety policies and procedures.
- Supervise open weight room times during normal business hours when there are no team trainings scheduled.
Administration
Participates in the on-campus recruitment activities of prospective student-athletes as requested. Ensures the completion of administrative tasks and functions. Participate in leadership training and team-building activities as requested. Coordinate with coaching staffs, strength & conditioning coaches and relevant support staff for the purposes of scheduling workouts, meetings and education. Annually participate in Title IX training. Maintain required licenses and certifications. Employees of Gonzaga University’s Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledge this compliance as part of an evaluation process. years Degree Required Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience Certifications and / or Licensures required CPR / First Aid certification or ability to obtain upon hire CSCS Certification Knowledge Required Expert in field Years Experience Required Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of professional experience as a strength and conditioning coach at the university level or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated success in program development, training and supervision. Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse university, community and athletic department environment. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulation. Strong communication skills to effectively work with a diverse work force and student-athlete population. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to motivate student athletes. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and detail-oriented. Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of confidentiality and discretion. Desired Qualifications Masters degree in exercise physiology or related field
