Summary
The Lead Cashier’s responsibilities include handling daily front-end cashier operations and overseeing the team of cashiers.He or she is expected to resolve unexpected internal and guest issues which may arise.The Lead Cashier will know all cashier duties including but not limited to operating a cash register to record the sale of merchandise, process returned items with the direction of a supervisor, and promoting guest service at the Front-End.Due to the guest service nature of this position, it is imperative that the Lead Cashier is enthusiastic, patient, punctual, eager to serve, and possesses a pleasant demeanor.The Lead Cashier must have strong communication skills and possess the ability to handle stressful situations, and volume of guests while maintaining a positive shopping experience for the guest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities A cashier is responsible for providing service that exceeds the expectations of guests by performing the following duties (other duties may be assigned) :
Adheres to all Bristol Farms policies & procedures when operating the cash register; including but not limited to :
- Set up and oversee functions of each POS station to ensure that they conform to efficiency and quality standards
- Train cashiers in the use of sophisticated POS systems to ensure that they provide optimum service to guests
- Maintain quality service during payment processing procedures
- Ensure guests are provided with due change and receipts
- Respond to guest complaints and suggestions in a positive manner and ensure that they are serviced immediately
- Assist cashiers in balancing their cash drawers at the end of each shift and ensure that any discrepancies are addressed immediately
- Create schedules for all cashiers and ensure that they are implemented properly
- Handle bank liaison duties to ensure that daily cash deposits are properly and timely carried out
- Resolve employee conflicts and problems, aiming to ensure harmony within the organization
- Required to keep the work area neat, clean, & organized
- Follows liquor & tobacco laws implicitly, in every regard including, but not limited to the verification and authenticity of valid, acceptable identification.Is responsible for ensuring that all alcohol purchases are made by persons aged 21 and older & tobacco purchases are made by persons aged 18 and older.Verifies proper identification of guests who appear to be under the age of 30 and are making an alcohol or tobacco purchase
- As mandated by California state law; Cashiers who sell alcoholic beverages must be 18 years old or older
- Follows safe work standards and reports any safety hazards to the management member in charge
- Availability requirements include; but are not limited to; days, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Follows policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook at all times
- At all times, meets and exceeds Bristol Farms / Lazy Acres standards in accuracy, guest service, appearance, quality, safety, and cleanliness
Guest Service Skills Lead Cashiers are expected to provide guest service that is extra ordinary and exceeds the expectations of our guests.They are required to follow established policies and guidelines that go beyond simply smiling and greeting guests.Going above and beyond encompasses attitudes, respect, and flexibility.Cashiers are expected to have a positive “can-do” attitude; to treat others with respect; and easily adjust to changes in the workplace.
Education and / or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions such as safety rules, and operating and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to speak effectively with guests.
Knowledge of English This is a guest service-driven position.Cashiers must have the ability to speak, read, and understand English.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers.
Reasoning Ability Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, Lead Cashiers are regularly required to stand for long periods; walk; reach; bend; use wrists; hands, hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.A Lead Cashier is frequently required to bend at the waist and reach with their arms and hands into guests’ grocery carts to collect merchandise.He or she is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.The individual must frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Lead Cashiers must have the ability to speak effectively with guests and staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision.
Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
