Compensation and benefits :

Position Classification & Compensation

This role is classified as non-exempt, full-time employee as those terms are defined in the Center’s Employee Handbook and is eligible for employee benefits as defined for this classification.

Reports to : Program Manager or Designee

Summary :   The Counselor is responsible for working collaboratively with the entire project (Texas Dept. of Family & Protective Services, Prevention and Early Intervention Division) team to ensure a high-fidelity implementation of counseling and family support services described in the approved proposal and contract awarded by DFPS. The scope of work is subject to change as needed to ensure each project’s success and to meet funders’ requirements. Likewise, complementary changes may be made to projects or individual goals and employee expectations based on agency / management strategic goals. All Center for Children team members are expected to be collegial and collaborative, mutually supportive, and focused on excellent services to clients, fidelity to program models, and ethical provision of services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain high levels of customer service, with attention to nurturing and building relationships with clients seeking services.
  • Ensure detailed knowledge of approved grants, contracts, requirements of the funders, and target populations.
  • As individual talents and expertise dictate, take the initiative to participate in developing / providing ongoing staff training.
  • Must be / become an expert in all required therapeutic / educational modalities utilized by the team and / or specified in the grants.
  • Participate in the Performance and Quality Improvement processes ensuring services are being delivered with fidelity to model and contractual / licensing obligations.
  • Adhere to accreditation standards (as developed), licensing standards, and other policies / regulations.
  • Conduct screening / intake, psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans.  (Client services are carried out in the office and / or in multiple venues in the community).
  • Conduct individual and family treatment interventions.  Family support sessions as defined in the FAYS contract.
  • Provide crisis intervention and family support sessions as defined in the FAYS contract.
  • As part of a team delivering counseling services to a wide range of clients, be an excellent professional colleague, contributing person and professional expertise, and guidance to colleagues to support the most beneficial interventions possible for clients.
  • Provide required data on performance metrics to the supervisor as needed / requested.
  • Be part of the team problem-solving process to overcome any barriers to counseling / program success.
  • This role, as with most at the agency, requires flexibility includes, including scheduling and when / where clients are seen for services.
  • Develop personal skills to carry out each program’s goals.
  • Provide training and coaching to new employees as necessary.
  • Assist with supervision of interns as needed, if applicable.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required paperwork regarding services and program activities to support accurate billing, excellent client services, and data management.
  • Participate in on-call rotation of the crisis line.
  • Make appropriate referrals to community resources and seek resources to support programs and families.
  • Provide crisis intervention to youth and families as needed.
  • Participate in trainings, events, and activities.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum qualifications for this position include :

  • Counselor should be licensed in one of the following : Licensed Master of Social Work; Licensed Clinical Social Worker; Licensed Professional Counselor; Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate; Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist; Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate; Licensed Psychological Associate; or Licensed Psychologist.
  • Counselor should have at least one year of experience in counseling or direct.
  • Must maintain licensure and pay for his / her own supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Exceptional computer skills, including proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite of business applications : Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from all walks of life.
  • Must have driver’s license, vehicle in safe operating condition, and maintain proof of current insurance at Texas minimum standards.
  • Must be able and willing to travel for trainings / meetings / conferences.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, and lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
