Under direct supervision, operates various construction equipment and tools to construct, repair, and maintain the Town's water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Examples Of Duties
Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment such as backhoes, excavators, loaders, trenchers, dump trucks, skid steers, and sewer-cleaning vehicles; uses hand and power tools as needed.
Cleans, repairs, and maintains utility lines and services, including excavation of trenches and ditches for main and service line installation.
Conducts daily inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation and safety standards.
Performs sewer line cleaning, loading and unloading of materials, and other maintenance or construction tasks.
Works safely in and around high-traffic areas, medians, and rights-of-way.
Trains employees in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety techniques.
Identifies potential hazards, liability exposures, and public inquiries, reporting findings to the supervisor.
Assists with utility maintenance duties and supports other departments as needed.
Adheres to Town, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
Must have a valid state-issued drivers license.
Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Drivers License, with proper endorsements and without restrictions, within six (6) months from the date of hire.
Your driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
One (1) year of experience in utility maintenance and / or equipment operation, to include backhoes, excavators, front loaders, and sewer line flushing trucks, is required.
Physical Abilities : The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Must be able to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow written or verbal instructions.
Requires sufficient hand, foot, and eye coordination to operate construction equipment safely.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. of equipment multiple times per day; bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and operate vibrating equipment.
Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, underground, in confined spaces, trenches, and uneven or muddy terrain, under noisy and adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rain, sleet, snow, heat, dust, fumes, chemicals, and traffic hazards). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

A Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class C Water Distribution Operator or Wastewater Collection II license is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Skilled in the safe operation of light to heavy equipment, vehicles, and small power tools.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, make competent decisions, and work effectively under pressure.
Strong multitasking and time management skills; able to meet deadlines.
Ability to respond within 30 minutes to on-call or emergency callbacks.
