Police Officer
Offering excellent benefits including a $2,488.74 monthly benefit bank for health insurance. Salary and additional benefits for sworn police officers range from $8,091 to $9,833 per month, $97,092 to $117,996 annually. Monthly city contributions to the 457 Deferred Compensation Retirement Plan and the Retirement Health Savings Plan. 155 holiday hours per fiscal year (can be converted to pay). This position requires current enrollment / attendance in a POST certified Police Officer Training Academy, or you must have graduated from a POST certified Police Officer Training Academy. Under direct supervision and tutorage of a tactical officer, develops an awareness of the functions, activities, and responsibilities of a Police Officer.
Essential functions include meeting standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City; observing accurately and remembering names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places; thinking and acting quickly in emergencies, and judging situations and people accurately; preparing accurate and grammatically correct written reports; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; maintaining prompt and regular attendance; and performing all duties within the context of the City's Mission Statement and Organizational Values.
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position is qualifying. A typical example includes a high school diploma or G.E.D., current enrollment and attendance in a POST certified Police Officer training academy OR have graduated within the past year from a POST certified Police Training Academy (required), and supplemental police science courses (desirable). Licenses / certifications include current enrollment and attendance in a POST certified Police Training Academy OR must have previously graduated from a POST certified Police Training Academy and possess a valid POST Police Training Academy Certificate (required). Experience is not required. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, police practices, and procedures is required. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions, use and care for firearms, learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations, learn standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system, and training / safety requirements will be provided according to class specification during work hours.
Special requirements include possessing a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record, receiving satisfactory results from a background investigation, polygraph test, psychological evaluation, a physical examination, which includes a drug screen, and an administrative review. Physical profile category IV public safety includes moderate lifting, heavy lifting, climbing, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, agility, color vision, distant vision, temperatures, fumes, work environment - outdoors, work environment - moving objects, work environment - surfaces, and heights.
