POSITION SUMMARY
Note : Grant-Funded position (grant end date 9-25-2025)
Provides advanced individual and group tutoring services in specific academic area(s) in an open lab and / or one-on-one setting in support of instructional programs. May participate in training and evaluating other tutors and assists in the creation of tutoring resources and materials as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to provide advanced level tutoring to students in open lab / self-paced settings that facilitates a learning climate that is open and encourages problem solving / critical thinking and ensures that the students' knowledge is challenged and probed.
- Ability to conduct group and individual tutoring sessions to determine what skill areas require additional assistance.
- Must be able to motivate and support student(s) through positive feedback and reinforcement.
- Must be able to explain concepts in a manner that students understand.
- Ability to perform essential functions utilizing knowledge and skills within the specific subject area(s) of support.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty regarding tutor / student assignment(s).
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship.
- Ability to assist students in the development of study skills and techniques to help improve their academic performance by adopting tutoring methods to meet their needs.
- Ability to provide excellent academic expertise and adapt tutoring methods to meet the student needs.
- Experience working with underserved and marginalized communities.
- Must be patience, have excellent interpersonal, coaching, oral, and written communication skills to be able to interact with a student population in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Must be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student's needs.
- Must be able to provide excellent customer service.

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Occasionally may be required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
