Job description

Job Description and Duties

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment for the Groundskeeper position(s). The vacancies exist in the Facility Operations Department and is under the direction of the Groundskeeping II Supervisor. Groundskeepers shall be responsible for landscaping duties hospital wide. A Training and Development (T&D) assignment may be considered.

The incumbent will have knowledge and experience with proper methods of planting, cultivating, and caring for hedges, shrubs, flowers, trees and lawns; correct use and care of landscaping / gardening materials, tools and equipment; approved methods and materials used in controlling and eradication common plant diseases and pests; keeping simple records, reports and maintaining accurate record keeping; instruct and leading unskilled assistants; knowledgeable of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the landscaping industry; maintaining and adhering to tool control policy and procedures; reading blueprints, working from plans and specifications; adhering to all safety and security policies and procedures; and knowledgeable of building, construction and safety codes applicable to the landscape industry.

Additional requirements include ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, good interpersonal skills, dependable, able to follow directions and complete assigned tasks, ability to work well with others and promote and maintain positive and effective work relationships, with good attendance. Ability to bend, kneel, climb, lift, work in confined spaces, and on inclines and declines and work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Overtime may be required as directed and approved.

Working Conditions

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
