Job description

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Manager

We are seeking an experienced Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Manager to lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives for a manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving programs that ensure regulatory compliance, minimize risk, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

As a member of the plant leadership team, the SHE Manager partners with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and other cross-functional teams to drive safety performance, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a safe, compliant, and collaborative workplace.

Location: Philadelphia, PA Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000 annually, plus eligibility to earn discretionary bonus Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-wide environmental, health, and safety management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company policies and standards.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and case management activities.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and compliance reviews to identify hazards and support continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate emergency preparedness activities.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to improve workplace safety and reduce operational risk.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Monitor environmental, health, and safety performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), scorecards, and reporting metrics.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen the organization's safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, communication, and behavior-based safety programs.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and programs that enhance regulatory compliance and operational performance.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and environmental compliance related to air, water, waste, hazardous materials, and other environmental programs.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and external contractors, as needed.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices to support ongoing compliance and organizational readiness.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Health, or a related technical field.
  • Seven or more years of environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental, health, and safety management systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success leading incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Experience developing and delivering employee safety training programs.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business applications.

Preferred

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification or another recognized safety certification.
  • Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or similar environmental and occupational health and safety management systems.
  • Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Experience managing environmental, health, and safety programs in highly regulated manufacturing environments.
