This part-time faculty position is in the Economics department at Cypress College, which is administered through the college’s Social Sciences Division. Today, the Cypress College Economics Department remains committed to providing high-quality education through providing the two fundamental courses of economics Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. SCHEDULE INFORMATION :

Teach daytime, in-person classes in macroeconomics and microeconomics.

Evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

Teach courses in Foundations of Macroeconomics and Foundations of Microeconomics.

Ensure student equity and facilitate, participate and lead in programmatic efforts, within the department, division, and campus-wide, to help underserved groups succeed.

Effective oral and written communication with students.

Commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Minimum Qualifications :

Master’s in economics

Bachelor’s in economics

Master’s in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance or political science

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.

the equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Desirable Qualifications :

Recent experience working with racially, ethnically, and / or socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns have shaped these groups’ experiences and representation within higher education, especially how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes. Demonstration of a willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to engage and support various groups of minoritized students more effectively.

Demonstrated experience in teaching Economics at the community college or university level and across multiple modalities including in-person, hybrid in-person, online synchronous, and / or online asynchronous.

Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues across disciplines, to design, revise, and implement new and existing curriculum and to advance the development of Economics at the college and in the district.

Demonstrated sensitivity to and the ability to motivate and teach community college students of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, cultures, religious affiliations, citizenship status, genders and sexual orientations, varied levels of academic preparation, learning styles, and / or disabilities, including Black / African American, Latinx / Hispanic, and Pacific Islander students, who are historically underserved.

Experience using a variety of pedagogies, including culturally responsive, decolonial, and / or antiracist pedagogies, that support student retention and successful course completion. Experience serving as a faculty advisor for student organizations and learning community cohorts.
