Job Description
Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking an engineer to join the thermal & hydraulic design procedure development team. The position involves application of knowledge in computational two-phase thermal hydraulics. The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers to develop, verify, and qualify computer-based thermal hydraulic procedures that are used to evaluate existing and new reactor designs for naval application. There are also opportunities to provide consulting support to address emergent issues for the fleet and new design communities and telework opportunities associated with machine learning, database design, and development of processes to support qualification.
Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Integrate with design and test groups as needed to understand development needs.
Define supporting testing.
Use test results to aid development and qualification efforts.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE / ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skills
Degrees in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering are preferred, but not required
Fundamental understanding of thermal hydraulics relevant to reactor core or plant behavior
Experience with Fortran and Python development and verification in a team setting
Demonstrated initiative and leadership on projects
Ability to articulate technical ideas in written reports and in project team discussions
Minimum GPA of 3.4 / 4.0

Pay Range
83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
