Fire (Heavy) Technician I-II (Depending on Qualifications and Experience)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fire (Heavy) Equipment Technician to join our award-winning team. This position is responsible for performing repairs, routine maintenance, and required inspections on the City’s fleet of fire apparatus.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel- and gasoline-powered heavy trucks and fire apparatus
- Perform preventive maintenance on heavy- and light-duty vehicles and equipment
- Complete routine tasks such as tire repairs, replacements, and installations
- Install, repair, or remove specialized equipment and attachments as needed
- Conduct Virginia state safety inspections per established standards
- Keep work areas and the surrounding property clean and organized
- Accurately document repairs, parts used, labor hours, and associated costs
- Support and train equipment operators on proper use and safety practices
- Perform other duties as needed to support overall fleet operations
$4,000 CDL Stipend.
This stipend will begin 90 days after you obtain your Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) and will be paid out weekly. The City provides CDL training at no cost to employees. The required 20 hours of behind-the-wheel training are completed on the clock – so you get paid to train. Vehicles for DMV road testing are also provided.

Automotive Technician I : Requires high school diploma or GED / HSE.
Automotive Technician II : Requires high school diploma or GED / HSE.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational / education standards, this position requires a minimum of :
Automotive Technician I : One year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Automotive Technician II : Two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with . Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL and ASE Certification within the probationary period. Virginia State Inspector License within probationary period.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications
ASE and EVT certifications are a big plus
