JOB TITLE : Fleet Mechanic II
LOCATION : Santa Barbara
FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION : Non-Exempt
DIRECT REPORTS : None
POSITION SUMMARY :
The Fleet Mechanic II, under limited supervision, performs preventive maintenance services, inspections, diagnostic and repairs on low to moderately complex issues, and assists (Senior Mechanics) with more complex repairs to ensure the fleet is fully operational in support of daily operations. This position will work on all major systems to include air, electrical, engine, general, and hydraulic.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.
- Performs general maintenance, repairs, and all levels of preventive maintenance services.
- Performs inspections, diagnostics, and repairs of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy-duty trucks and equipment under the general guidance of a Fleet Mechanic III or supervision of a Fleet Manager.
- Identifies and determines parts required for repairs of disassembled units.
- Road test fleet when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Responds to minor-to-moderate service calls and performs field repair.
- Reviews and completes the Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
- Performs all work within a reasonable time.
- Communicates repair status with management.
- Conducts safety checks on vehicles
- Utilizes fleet maintenance software program to document and track repair orders and any related information, such as parts usage, time allocation, and status updates.
- Provides technical knowledge training to Fleet Mechanic I and assists Fleet Mechanic III in the completion of project work.
- Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned and upon the discretion of the Fleet Maintenance Manager and / or Shop Coordinator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The role invests time in coaching and mentoring. Contributes to knowledge sharing in area of technical expertise.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE :
EDUCATION
High School or GED. Technical school education is a plus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and dirty. Required to put on protective outfits such as gloves, safety eyeglasses, safety footwear, coverall, and hardhat.
