Equipment Operator III

As an Equipment Operator III, you will operate heavy weight equipment and vehicles in the maintenance of the Springfield Sanitary Landfill. The Springfield Sanitary Landfill provides efficient, reliable, and environmentally secure disposal of municipal solid wastes and other non-hazardous materials. The Landfill is a vital part of the solid waste management plan in Springfield. The Mission of the City of Springfield's Solid Waste Management Division is to provide an Integrated Solid Waste Management System for Springfield and Greene County that is environmentally sound and economically feasible which represents a long-term solution to preserve the natural resources of the region of present and future generations.
- Assignment at Landfill receives 5% pay differential
The testing process for the position of Equipment Operator III is outlined below :
PHASE I : Skills Test - This portion of the testing will require the candidate to demonstrate his / her skills in the operation of heavy-weight equipment such as : heavy dozer, excavator, and haul truck. Candidates will test on all THREE pieces of equipment. Candidates must receive a passing score on all pieces of equipment order to pass the skills test and be eligible to proceed in the testing process.
PHASE II : Candidate Interview - This portion of the process includes an interview with the Landfill Supervisor and Human Resources. The interview will focus on the candidate's total qualifications with regard to knowledge, experience, skills and abilities required for the job. Candidates must receive a passing score in order to pass the interview and be eligible for the position.
The candidate's FINAL SCORE for the Eligibility List will be based on the following : Skills Test - 50% Candidate Interview - 50%
Please note the planned schedule for Equipment Operator III Testing :
SKILLS TEST : Tentatively DECEMBER 2025 - WEATHER PERMITTING
Individual times will be scheduled for qualified candidates after the closing date; Skills Testing site at the Springfield Sanitary Landfill; Candidate Interviews will be held following the Skills Test.
