Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), PALS, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) via NBRC Must-Have: Extensive ventilator management and ICU experience Description: Assignments are based on the number of treatments per day. It is not a heavy load. Typically, there are 3-4 ventilators managed each week. Assignments are divided among staff members during different shifts. Certifications required include BLS and ACLS, with a strong preference for RRT. Pediatric patients are primarily found in the emergency department or during minor surgeries. Areas covered include inpatient settings such as ICU, emergency department, labor and delivery, medical-surgical units, psychiatric units, recovery rooms, and sleep labs. Offsite skilled nursing facilities are covered only as a last resort. Candidates must have extensive experience with ventilator management and ICU care. Job duties include drawing and interpreting ABGs, drawing from arterial lines, assisting with bronchoscopies, and participating in all codes and rapid response situations. There are no responsibilities for EKGs. In labor and delivery, tasks include setting up blenders and humidifiers. There is a pediatric doctor available for settings and intubations. Stabilization and transfer of patients may be required, as well as capillary sticks. Occasionally, assistance in the sleep lab is required for oxygen adjustments. Candidates will assist with intubations but will not be required to do so independently. A manager is available Monday through Friday, with no designated leads but always a resource. Shift patterns include a variety of 8s, 10s, and 12s. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff members. Floating to cover all areas is required. The dress code consists of black and teal intermix tops and bottoms. Equipment used includes Draeger, Vision BiPap, V60s, Dräger Carina, and Puritan Bennett. A hospitalist is available 24/7 with an intensivist on call during evenings and nights. Must possess strong communication skills and be willing to ask questions. Flexibility is important as the facility is accommodating and traveler-friendly. Honesty about skills is critical, as patient safety is a priority. The manager is a supportive resource as well. Cancellation policies permit the client to cancel up to three shifts in a thirteen-week assignment without penalty. The charting system utilized is MEDITECH. A BSN is not required. The trauma level of the facility is acute. Care settings involve acute divisions across various platforms.
