Responsibilities

What your day looks like as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance, including oil changes, brake repairs, and fluid checks.
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA and port regulations
• Maintain accurate service, maintenance, and repair records
• Operate diagnostic tools and repair equipment to troubleshoot issues efficiently
• Collaborate with equipment operators and supervisors to identify and resolve mechanical issues promptly.
• Respond to emergency breakdown repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work is 100% outdoors
• Candidate will be exposed to weather conditions like heat, rain & cold on daily basis. And in some occasions will work in closed spaces (warehouse, vessel hatch, etc.)
• Ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders up to 100 feet, and respond quickly in dynamic environments
• Comfortable working in a noisy, industrial setting
• Flexibility to work extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends, as operations needs require

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in a port, construction, or industrial setting.
• High school diploma or GED required, technical certification in diesel or heavy equipment mechanics preferred
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Background in preventive maintenance including oil/lube/brakes/hoses/hydraulics
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Ability to obtain a TWIC card (for more information visit the TSA website on TWIC requirements)

Compensation and Benefits:

• Scheduling:
• Monday - Friday, day shift with nights and weekends as needed.
• Compensation and Benefits:
• $30-35/hr. Based on experience
• Regularly available over time
