A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SEWER SPECIALIST / HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
As a Sewer Specialist / Heavy Equipment Operator, you coordinate with your team to gather needed information regarding jobs and fill out proper paperwork including all 811 (Bluestakes) before work begins. Communicating effectively with customers, subcontractors, city inspectors, managers, and co-workers, you relay accurate information. Throughout the day, you perform drain cleaning through reinstatement equipment and hydro jetters. You remove cleanouts, pull and reseal / reset toilets, follow proper ladder safety, and roof safety for inspections or cleanings. Using a sewer camera and location equipment, you inspect equipment and locate sewer and water lines. You perform manual excavation with a shovel and use excavation equipment including skid steers and mini excavators.
With your understanding of trench safety equipment including shoring, trench boxes, and work in trenches, you are able to maintain a safe environment. Making proper connections using the correct fittings for sewer and water pipe, you correct bad sewer and water lines. You continue to learn and improve your technical skill in Sewer Repair and Lining. Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times to comply with all safety procedures and protocols. At the end of the day, you ensure equipment is cleaned, and inventory levels are properly maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Competent Person Training
- At least 1 year of mini-excavator and skid steer experience
- Able to pass a background check and drug test
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
- Understanding of pipe laying and bedding
