Maintenance Helper

Summary Description :

Under directions of the Facility Manager and / or Maintenance Lead, provides assistance to maintenance personnel. Attends written work orders and performs basic building and equipment repairs. Drive company vehicles to and from job sites and on errands. Locates and purchases parts or materials for repairs.

Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Duties include minor plumbing, electrical, lighting, carpentry, wall patching, painting, concrete and flooring repairs.
  • Relocate office equipment and furnishings. Assist in handling construction work to include framing, gypsum wall boarding; door window, and hardware installation.
  • Operates both manual and electric powered hand tools. Minor preventative maintenance repairs on air conditioning systems.
  • Maintain emergency systems including fire extinguishers and egress lighting.
  • Keeps the workshop and trucks in clean and orderly condition.
  • Retrieves repair parts, shop tools and other items as specified.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ANALYSIS

Physical Demands and Working Conditions :

  • Standing and walking for up to 7 hours. Some sitting may vary.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing, balancing, bending, and twisting required.
  • Finger and manual dexterity required.
  • Work inside and outside required.
  • Work along and with others required.

    • Environment / Element Exposure :

  • Vibrations, hazards (physical), fumes, dust, and odors : occasionally.
  • Chemicals : occasionally.
  • Extreme cold, heat, wet or humid conditions : occasionally.

    • Minimum Qualifications :

    Education / Experience :

  • High School Diploma preferred or equivalent.
  • Minimum one to two years’ working experience in the related field.
  • Able to stand and walk up to 7 hours per day.
  • Able to climb, kneel, crawl, or squat.
  • Able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid CA Driver’s License; clean DMV printout and be insurable to drive company vehicle.
  • Able to follow simple and complex instructions.

    • Knowledge & Skills :

  • Knowledge of construction, carpentry, electrical systems and plumbing helpful.
  • Able to safely operate hand and power tool.
  • Knowledge in blueprints / schematics reading.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions to perform assigned tasks in a safe and efficiently.

    • License / Certifications :

  • Valid CA Driver’s License : clean DMV printout and be insurable to drive company vehicles.

    • Desirable Qualifications :

  • Able to work with a diversified population and people with barriers to employment.
  • Able to work efficiently, safe, and in a cost-effective manner.
  • Able to follow directions with minimal supervision.
  • Team orientated and able to work closely with others.

  • Safety, Compliance & Risk Mitigation - Identifies minor building and equipment issues and recommends or executes basic repair solutions; troubleshoots effectively within scope of training and under supervision.
  • Communication & Customer Service - Supports and collaborates with other maintenance staff and leads; contributes to a cooperative team environment and helps achieve shared goals; welcomes feedback and assists when needed.
  • Training, Teamwork & Collaboration - Responds to internal requests from staff professionally; ensures assigned tasks do not disrupt organizational operations; maintains courteous and service-oriented behavior.
  • Leadership & Talent Development - Listens actively to supervisors and coworkers; maintains professionalism under pressure; shows willingness to try new approaches and follow through with assigned duties.
  • Inventory, Resource & Budget Management - Clearly communicates questions or concerns about work orders and tasks; reports job status or issues effectively to the supervisor; understands and follows verbal instructions.
