Division Overview
The mission of the ACS Education Division is to serve learners and educators by building communities and supporting innovative, relevant, and effective chemistry education and professional development. The strategic objectives of the ACS Education Division reflect the responsiveness of the Division in fulfilling the vision, mission, and values of ACS and meeting the needs of the changing chemistry enterprise.
Position Summary
The Office of Higher Education (OHE) implements and administers the ACS Approval Program, working with society governance units to promote excellence and provide leadership in postsecondary chemistry education. The Program Manager for the ACS Approval Program will oversee all aspects of the approval process, including interaction with academic departments, evaluation of current chemical education practices, and initial evaluation of materials submitted as part of the approval process.
Work design : Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to perform assignments and create solutions. Demonstrates increased comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a specialized field. Nature of work includes identifying problems and providing solutions to resolve a variety of complex issues. Decision making involves setting priorities, evaluating results, and collaborating with others to formulate, interpret, policies or organizational practices to provide recommendations and solutions. The position reports directly to the Assistant Director.
Position Accountabilities
- Oversees and manages the review of submissions from academic institutions relating to program approval, including full applications, periodic reports, and annual reports.
- Manages interactions with the academic community and disseminates new policies and guidelines.
- Writes and edits communications to the community and governance units, including content for web site, training manuals, and newsletters. Assists in planning and delivering training webinars.
- Assists with program and education data management, analysis, and evaluation.
- Plans meetings, prepares meeting agendas, and submits abstracts when necessary.
- Assists the Education Division with special projects related to the higher education community.
Education / Experience / Technological Knowledge
Advanced degree in chemistry or chemical related science or equivalent experience, Ph.D. preferred; 5+ years of related experience. Experience in higher education and familiarity with current higher education practices. Ability to analyze and evaluate institution and educational data. Excellent communication skills : Oral, written, and presentation. Excellent organizational and collaboration skills. The position requires approximately 16 travel days / year.

Position Summary
Thi s position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other remote days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
