Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: Surgical Services Duration: 13-week contract Shift: First Shift Mon-Fri Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum of seven years License: Required Certifications: BLS, Certified Surgical Tech (CST) certification Must-Have: Technical Diploma from an accredited surgical technologist program or comparable military training Description: The Surgical Technologist serves as a primary scrub person or assistant for operative procedures. Job Responsibilities: 35% Surgical Prep: Scrubbing into cases. Ensure instruments and supplies are available for the scheduled case. Set up cases ensuring that all instruments are thoroughly sterilized. Maintain the sterile field during case setup. Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variance from standard operating procedures. 35% During Surgical Cases: Pass instruments. Assist the physician as needed. May be asked to assist the physician to cut suture material. May be asked to apply electrocautery to clamps on bleeders under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Conduct instrument, sponge, and sharps counts. Maintain the sterile field throughout the case. Drape and assist the circulating RN with patient positioning. Collaborate with the circulating nurse to carry out appropriate interventions. 20% Post Case Cleanup: Work with the circulating nurse and orderlies to perform post-case cleaning duties. Be responsible for gross decontamination of instruments, including breaking down instruments for further cleaning. Follow all standards for instrument transport and return to Central Sterile Processing. Notify the appropriate leader if there are any damaged instruments at the end of the case. Ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure. Check par levels and ensure the room is fully stocked for the next case. 10% Client Policies and Procedures: Complete all mandatory hospital education. Maintain compliance with all HR and Employee Health requirements. Follow all safe practices in the operating room and complete the age-specific annual assessment of competency documents. Schedule Notes: The surgery consists of 15 operating room suites, which includes a Hybrid OR and two cardio-thoracic ORs, an anesthesia workroom and office, an OR distribution room, a sterile supply room, one dirty utility room, equipment storage rooms, staff and physician lounges, a surgery control desk office, a satellite pharmacy, a nurse manager's office, and a director's office, as well as a surgery conference room and office area that contains offices of the surgery secretary, PACU, and the surgery educational coordinator. A surgery annex office is located on the second floor of the medical park and contains offices of surgery schedulers.
