Job description

Summary

This Social Worker serves as a Program Coordinator at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS.) The Social Work Program Coordinator leads the 18-bed PTSD Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) at the American Lake Division, called the Veterans Intensive PTSD (VIP) program. The VAPSHCS is a Complexity Level 1a Facility and provides extensive primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and community settings.

    Supervisory Duties :

  • Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised.
  • Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Evaluates staff performance. Develops performance improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary.
  • Conducts ongoing reviews and performance appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies.
  • Coordinates / tracks data related to productivity, timely provision of services, and appropriate documentation of workload.
  • Provides consultation / training to internal / external stakeholders on the complex needs of Veterans with PTSD.
  • Ensures staff supervised are aware of and adhere to all current VHA directives and meet relevant accreditation standards.
  • Provides clinical supervision to unlicensed social workers working towards licensure.
  • Administrative Duties :

  • Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State, local, and private agencies, and universities. Technical assistance provided to monitor activities and program reviews and the development / analysis of information.
  • Uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements.
  • Performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contract work as possible with various agencies.
  • Leads and / or facilitates clinical, facility-wide process improvements to address access to and population coverage of substance use disorder treatment.
  • Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs. Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component.
  • Develops, enhances, and tracks new initiatives, monitors effectiveness, and modifies as needed to meet care needs.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines related to the management and provision of care of patients.
  • Clinical Duties :

  • Provides full range of advanced level clinical care to a complex population of patients with a wide range of clinical needs.
  • Provides comprehensive mental health and psychosocial assessment and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range of mental health issues receiving care within CRCS.
  • Provides education to patients and family members regarding mental and substance use disorders and best practices approaches to treatment.
  • Coordinates community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs, and community agencies.
  • Refers Veterans to a wide variety of community and VA housing resources, maintains the relationships with those respective facilities / agencies, facilitates inter agency communication and care conferences as needed and provides discharge planning for Veterans that maintains a continuity of care.
  • Adheres to all Facility and Service Line policies and practices for delivering clinical care.

    Pay : Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.   • Licensure / Certification.     Grade Determinations :

    Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-13

    Experience / Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum / course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.

    Licensure / Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.

    Preferred Experience : 2 years of experience providing treatment to Veterans for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). 2 years of experience in a supervisory position. Has certification in evidence-based treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

    Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs.

    a) Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility.

    b) Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and / or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive.

    c) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).

    d) Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care.

    e) Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action.

    f) Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.

    g) Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations.
