Essential Job Duties
The Painter will be responsible for painting duties, which may include, but are not be limited to painting of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. The Painter will determine whether surfaces need to be sanded or patched before applying paint, and will then clean, sand, patch, prime and prepare areas to be painted. After the work of sanding, puttying or patching has been completed by self or others, the Painter will check surfaces before beginning the next phase of work.
The Painter will mix paint appropriately to match colors and ensure the appropriate shades and maintains a safe, clean and non-disruptive work area; sets up scaffolding or ladders; determines exact amount of paint that will be needed and how many coats of paint to apply, and works independently and / or assists other Painters as assigned. The Painter will also establish and maintain effective working relationships with a very wide range of contacts to include co-workers, contractors, other trades team members, vendors, customers / residents, and other University personnel.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience / Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines : Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications
- Must be knowledgeable in the use and application of various products used in the painting trade.
- The employee will be trained on the practices specific to the facilities of Campus Life but must have skill and experience with various painting techniques, products, equipment, and supplies.
- Must be skilled in the mixing of paints and in matching and blending colors.
- Must be skilled in the use of and care of tools used in the painting trade (paint brushes, rollers, spray gun, putty knife, scrapers, etc.).
- Must have a good knowledge concerning the differences between coatings and their use.
- Must have the ability to set up and break down scaffolding, work from extreme heights and lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 60-90 pounds occasionally.
