Review vehicle damage claims, write appraisals and / or review appraisals from body shops, preferred programs, smart phone apps, independent appraisers, company appraisers and other sources.
Handle automobile material damage claims in compliance with Encova Claims department polices for contact, communication, cycle time, coverage verification, evaluation / negotiation and resolution of the file.
Negotiate, settle and pay vehicle damage and total loss claims.
Provide advice and recommendations to other material damage appraisers and claims resolution specialists on the material damage aspect of a claim.
Handle salvage disposal on vehicles that are considered total losses.
Handle / monitor title procurement on vehicles / equipment considered total losses.
May be required to testify as to material damage issues in lawsuits involving vehicle damage.
Capable of reviewing and writing estimates while meeting acceptable productivity, turnaround and quality standards.
Assist in catastrophe claims handling throughout the company operating territory.
Handle rental claims.
Serve as a member of claims and other company integrated teams as assigned.

OTHER FUNCTIONS :
Keep up-to-date on the changes and advances in vehicle repair and estimating methods.
Overnight travel or extended stays may be required upon request.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
The candidate must have at least three years’ experience as a material damage appraiser or its equivalent in the industry.
Must have demonstrated the ability to negotiate, settle and pay vehicle damage and total loss claims.
The individual should actively demonstrate the skills and abilities listed in the Material Damage Specialist I job description.
Internal candidates must have achieved an overall rating of at least “Meets Expectations” on the last annual performance review.
Demonstrate the ability to efficiently use computer software used by Encova to write estimates and value total losses required.
Must exhibit strong customer service skills.
Additional education or experience with heavy trucks or specialty equipment (boats, campers, and motorcycles) is preferred.
Must exhibit exceptional knowledge of vehicle repair techniques and methods.
Must pass the claims adjuster license exam(s) for applicable states as requested by management based on staffing needs.
