Berkeley Lab's Engineering Division is hiring a Senior Instrumentations Electronics Engineer to support the Advanced Light Source program. The role involves designing and implementing advanced electronic instrumentation and data acquisition systems for particle accelerators and scientific applications, covering all phases from conceptualization to commissioning.
What You Will Do :
- Independently or with minimal supervision, assist or lead the development of electronic instrumentation and data acquisition systems for particle accelerators.
- Apply system design principles to solve complex technical problems in accelerator instrumentation.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to define requirements, specifications, and implement solutions.
- Engage with a broad range of engineers, scientists, and staff across various disciplines.
- Perform tasks like circuit design, FPGA system selection, software programming, and implementing test & measurement equipment in the lab and field.
- Oversee all project phases : design, implementation, integration, testing, and commissioning.
- Guide less senior staff and contribute to documentation, baseline data, and procedures.
- Provide cost, scope, and schedule estimates for projects.
- Represent the lab in external design reviews, workshops, and conferences, and publish work in relevant journals.
- Ensure the 24 / 7 operation of the ALS user facility, providing occasional off-hours support as needed.
- Prioritize safety and adhere to Berkeley Lab's policies and training.
- Contribute to accelerator physics and control systems projects, and lead or contribute to external collaborations.

Salary :
The expected salary for this position is $158,000.00 - $193,000.00, which fits into the full salary of $140,676.00 - $237,408.00 annually depending upon the candidate's skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
