Job description

Renu Energy Solutions is currently looking to hire a Permits & Inspections Coordinator in our Charlotte, NC office. We desire smart, hard working employees who are looking to grow a career in the renewable energy field. We offer a high energy and professional work environment where career growth is expected for strong performers. We are growing rapidly in the North Carolina and South Carolina markets, as a leading solar and battery installer in the Southeast, and hope that you can be part of our team.

Position Summary :

The Permit & Inspection Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of solar projects for both residential and commercial divisions. This position is responsible for managing the end-to-end permitting and inspection process, including submitting permit applications, coordinating with local authorities (AHJs), scheduling inspections, maintaining internal databases, and supporting interconnection processes with utilities. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and an effective communicator who can collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure timely approvals and successful inspections. This role supports both operational efficiency and a positive customer experience by keeping projects on track and in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Renu Residential Responsibilities :

  • Maintain and update an internal AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) database, including permitting and code requirements specific to each jurisdiction.
  • Submit and apply for all permits through the appropriate AHJ processes.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Manager and Scheduler to ensure permits are received prior to scheduled installation dates; proactively communicate any delays in permit issuance.
  • Schedule inspections with AHJs, coordinate with customers, and host inspections as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Field Manager, Electrical Department Manager, and Director of Design to ensure plan sets are accurate and installation-ready prior to inspections.
  • Coordinate inspection correction work when needed, and ensure re-inspections are scheduled and completed successfully.
  • Communicate inspection results clearly to Operations Leadership and Field Staff via internal platforms; flag failed inspections immediately.
  • Upload and manage all permit and inspection documentation across operational platforms.
  • Support the utility interconnection process when needed, including submission of ROPCs (Request for Permission to Construct), interconnection documents, and utility communication to track status.
  • Manage personal workflow and scheduling to ensure maximum efficiency and support for both the customer experience and operational team needs.

Renu Commercial Responsibilities :

  • Continue to build and maintain an internal AHJ database specifically for commercial permitting and code requirements.
  • Develop and refine internal processes for commercial permitting to support scalability and handoff to future team members.
  • Submit and apply for all commercial permits through appropriate AHJ channels, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with Commercial Operations staff to ensure timely inspection scheduling and completion.
  • Manage the submission, follow-up, and tracking of utility interconnection applications, including ROPCs and interconnection documentation.
  • Support structural engineering coordination, including submission of documents to third parties and obtaining structural letters and approvals on schedule.
  • Upload and maintain all commercial permit and inspection records on internal platforms.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving issues that may delay permit approvals or inspection passes.
  • Qualifications :

  • Experience in permitting, inspections, or project coordination in the construction, solar, electrical, or utility industries (1+ years preferred, not required).
  • Working knowledge of AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) processes and building / electrical code compliance, especially in SC and NC (or ability to quickly learn regional variations).
  • Understanding of utility interconnection processes and required documentation (ROPCs, interconnection agreements, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple permitting timelines and shifting priorities across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, both internally with cross-functional teams (Operations, Field, Design) and externally with AHJs, customers, and utilities.
  • Proficiency in project management or CRM platforms and cloud-based documentation tools.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to spot discrepancies in plans, permits, and inspection documentation.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to anticipate permitting or inspection roadblocks and proactively resolve issues.
  • Familiarity with reading and understanding construction or electrical plan sets is a plus.
  • Self-starter with time management skills, capable of working independently while contributing to a fast-paced operations team.
  • Salary Description

    55,000 - $65,000 depending on experience
