The Operations Section of King Countys Solid Waste Division (SWD) is inviting applications for one (1) Career Service Electrician II. About this Role

As an Electrician II supporting a regional landfill and multiple transfer stations youll play a key role in keeping essential public services running safely and efficiently. From maintaining high-voltage systems and industrial flares to troubleshooting digital controls and security infrastructure your work directly supports environmental protection public health and community well-being. This role offers variety autonomy and the opportunity to take on meaningful challengeslike modernizing electrical systems and supporting upgrades that improve service equity and sustainability across the region. The Electrician II will supervise electricians and other skilled staff ensuring high-quality safe and efficient work across our facilities. Key responsibilities include scheduling coordinating project planning cost estimating tracking labor and materials coordinating with internal teams and contractors and managing work orders.

About the Team

The Operations team plays a critical role in supporting the divisions mission to deliver safe reliable and sustainable waste management services. This team maintains and improves the infrastructure that keeps our landfill and transfer stations runningensuring compliance with environmental regulations while enhancing safety for workers and the surrounding community. As new facilities are constructed and older ones require upgrades Operations collaborates across the division to meet evolving service needs. Job Duties

What You Will be Doing :

  • Supervise and mentor other electricians and / or other skilled workers that assist in maintenance repair or installation of projects.
  • Perform and / or supervise maintenance and repairs on (0-1000) volt systems. Experience with switchgear ancillary equipment heavy equipment solar pumps and ignition components.
  • Evaluate existing equipment provide recommendations for future electrical needs and estimate costs.
  • Install modify and upgrade new and existing electrical systems component parts and other related electrical equipment in compliance with municipal and national electrical codes.
  • Maintain troubleshoot and repair power distribution systems including but not limited to lighting distribution and low voltage switching power distribution panels and circuits emergency generator and related heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and power transfer switches.
  • Maintain troubleshoot and repair electronic digital communications control systems combined electronic fire alarm and smoke control systems closed circuit TV security systems electronic door security controls electronic elevator security controls intercom and paging systems pneumatic tube carrier systems fans pumps and their motor control equipment digital card reader systems cameras parking gates and roll-up doors motion sensors door monitoring systems and kitchen equipment.
  • Customer Service and Support : Provide responsive service to internal and external stakeholders and perform hands-on electrical work as needed to support operational needs.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

Qualifications You Bring :

  • Experience supervising electricians or others other skilled and semi-skilled workers on projects.
  • Minimum four (4) yearsof demonstrated Journey-level knowledge of and skills in the electrical trade.
  • Minimum four (4) years working knowledge with different electrical equipment and their functions to include but not limited to lighting motors pumps gas systems generators panel interfaces fans heating & cooling.
  • Minimum four (4) years of demonstrated experience in applying safety practices for electrical voltages (0-1000) mechanical and environmental hazards i.e. chemical gasses and confined spaces.
  • Minimum four (4) years of demonstrated knowledge of federal Washington State and local electrical codes.
  • Skill in the use and care of the tools machinery and equipment of the electrical trade
  • Commercial (high voltage) electrical experience.
  • Experience providing technical oversight and problem solving.
  • Skill in making complex time and material estimates.
  • Experience providing customer service and support.
  • Necessary Special Requirements :

  • Valid Washington State Drivers License
  • Valid Washington State Journey Electrician (01) License and the ability to maintain the license throughout employment per RCW 19.28.191
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete professional reference checks and pass a physical examination.
  • It Would Be Great If You Also Brought :

  • 4 years experience as a Journeyman licensed electrician.
  • Demonstrated experience with solar pumps
  • Demonstrated experience with gas collection electrical equipment
  • Demonstrated experience with motor and pump control programing

  • Supplemental Information

    Working Conditions :

  • Work Location : Employees in this role work onsite at various locations throughout King County with the primary reporting work location being the Solid Waste Division (SWD) Renton Shop Maintenance Facility which is located at 201 SW 34TH St. Renton WA 98057.
  • Work Schedule : This position works a 40-hour workweek; Monday through Friday 5 : 30 a.m. to 2 : 00 p.m. is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
  • Physical Requirements : The candidate may need to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. The candidate must be able to work on ladders and scaffolding. The candidate must have the ability to work inside / outside in heat / cold wet / humid inclement weather while at various heights and / or within confined spaces at all Solid Waste facilities and other adverse conditions such as odor high volume noise dust and heavy traffic.
  • Union Representation : This position is represented by Joint Crafts Council (JCC) International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 46 - Electricians.
