POSITION SUMMARY

Thompson Engineering is seeking a skilled and motivated Transportation Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to join our growing transportation design team in our Tuscaloosa, AL office. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in roadway and transportation design and will play a key role in supporting and leading projects from concept through construction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare roadway and transportation designs, plans, and specifications using OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Support and lead design efforts for municipal, state DOT, and private transportation projects.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including survey, environmental, and structural staff.
• Develop project deliverables including cost estimates, quantities, and design reports.
• Serve as a task leader or project engineer on complex assignments.
• Assist with client coordination, project management, and mentoring of junior engineers or designers.
QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 5–10 years of professional experience in transportation or roadway design.
• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D is preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (not required for consideration).
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
