Elephas, a Madison, WI-based biotechnology start-up company, is seeking a highly motivated and creative Senior Mechanical Engineer. Applicants should be comfortable in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be a skilled engineer experienced in the development of integrated systems including optics, motion control, sensing, and automation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead efforts contributing to the development of automated systems for biological sample handling and analysis
- Management of and contribution to third party engineering activities
- Ownership of day-to-day internal engineering activities including custom part design and fabrication either in-house or through vendors
- Contribute to brainstorms relating to developing novel instrumentation and consumables
- Responsible for the development and testing of new instrumentation
- Analyze, interpret, and present data in a clear manner at internal and external meetings
- Work in close collaboration with other team members to drive innovation
- Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and analyses to validate design concepts and performance.
Education / Experience / Skills
Associate's, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in engineering, bioengineering, physics, electrical engineering or a related field. 10 - 15+ years of industry experience. Extensive experience with optical assemblies, motion control, system design, and testing required. Experience managing or working with engineering tools and software such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and SolidWorks desired. Consumable design including materials selection and injection molding a plus.
