Job Description
Here’s a Glimpse of the Job
The Laboratory Coordinator II will oversee daily activities of the lab. The selected candidate will prepare materials, train teaching assistants, and teach / co-teach selected labs. Duties for this role may include ensuring safety protocols during instructional laboratory sessions for undergraduate and professional students, preparing and setting up the laboratory for multiple labs each week, and cleaning the laboratory.
Opportunities to Contribute :
Assists with and / or attends training sessions for laboratory instruction.
Coordinates, supervises, and leads instructional laboratory sessions while providing technical support for undergraduate and professional students.
Assists undergraduate and professional students with assignments, quizzes, and exams.
Assists with daily duties needed to maintain the teaching laboratories. Duties may include ensuring safety protocols during instructional laboratory sessions for undergraduate and professional students, preparing and setting up the laboratory for multiple labs each week, and cleaning the laboratory.
Assists with longer-term lab organizational efforts.
Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness.
Assists in preparing teaching materials and pre-laboratory presentations.
Coordinates the day-to-day operations of both physical and digital laboratory spaces.
Manages instrumentation used in instructional laboratories.
Grades lab assignments as well as other homework assignments, quizzes, and exams.
Assists with outreach programs, including department Open Houses, summer programs, and workshops; prepares and supports laboratory setup for these events.
Participates in the preparation and review of laboratory final examinations and supports overall lab administration, ensuring adherence to established standards and safety procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of related experience.
Ability to bend and / or stoop for long periods.
Ability to lift and / or move moderate to heavy weight objects.
A well-qualified candidate will also possess :
Master’s degree in chemistry or related field.
Industry and / or teaching experience.
Knowledge of chemical safety protocols.
Knowledge of chemistry laboratory techniques.
Ability to assist in teaching Graduate, Professional, and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Knowledge of computers and cloud computing environments.
Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Salary : Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.
