Description
PCSI is looking for a Grounds Laborer at its Detroit Arsenal Site! We are seeking a motivated and friendly team member to perform groundskeeping and maintenance duties. The right person will be proactive and take pride in their accomplishments. This position will report to the Grounds Supervisor and is based at Detroit Arsenal in Warren, MI.
Shift: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday, some Saturdays (alternate schedule) - flexible schedule with snow
Rate of pay: $25.07 per hour (union position)

What You'll Do as a Grounds Laborer:

Maintains grass with zero-turn lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, and various hand tools.
-
Utilizes power and hand tools to perform various landscaping activities, such as digging, moving, filling, and leveling earth, river rock, and other fill material; places sod and grass seed; cleans ditches, culverts, & storm drains; removes / places mulch; picks up trash, leaves, and other debris.

Plants, trims, and removes trees, shrubs, and bushes using chainsaws, hedge trimmers, and other power and hand tools.

Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces signposts, signs, parking blocks, and fencing.
-
Spreads salt on icy roads & walkways by hand, manual spreader, and box spreaders; removes snow with shovels, utility vehicles, Polar Tracs, and plow trucks.

Performs operator maintenance on all tools and equipment used.
-
Can be placed on the on-call list for after-hours emergency response.

Performs all related duties as assigned
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Must have six (6) months of recent/relevant Grounds Laborer experience or demonstrated mechanical ability to perform the assigned duties of the position; pesticide/herbicide licenses desirable but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Ability to work any time of the day and any day of the week, including weekends and holidays, in all weather conditions, utilizing appropriate safety precautions and procedures while being exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without assistance (reasonable accommodations provided)

Zero-turn mower operation
-
Commercial snowplow experience
-
Mechanical equipment repair experience is a plus
Other Requirements:

Successfully pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background check, & motor vehicle report

Maintain security clearance, including a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) investigation

Maintain a valid State of Michigan driver's license and remain insurable to operate Company vehicles

Able to effectively read, write, and speak the English language
