Job descriptionTraining development and coordination of training for new team members. Education, re-education, and evaluation of pharmacy technicians of their assigned roles. Recruitment of pharmacy technician personnel. Assists the leadership team with quality and regulatory tasks as assigned. Accurately prepares sterile and non-sterile drug products to meet the needs of both inpatients and outpatients within the facility. Pharmacy technicians in this role must demonstrate understanding and competency of governing policies (USP 795, 797, 800, and departmental standard operating procedures) to prepare any and all drug products for administration to patients when required. Assists multidisciplinary team members (nurses, providers, PCAs, etc.) by triaging medication related requests and fulfilling them accurately and efficiently in conjunction with the pharmacist. Establishes and communicates a clear vision for the pharmacy technician staff that focuses on patient safety and regulatory compliance, and aligns with organizational objectives. Assist the Operations manager in fostering staff growth and development both professionally and personally. Assists in monitoring and evaluating pharmacy technician training, productivity, and growth. Provide support and guidance to the pharmacy technician team and ancillary support services while promoting the values of our organization and facilitates teamwork and cooperation among staff. Works jointly with members of the pharmacy leadership team in efforts to optimize pharmacy operations as a collaborative responsibility. Under the direction of the pharmacy operations manager Helps to supervise day-to-day medication prep / delivery and supporting infrastructural systems (automated dispensing cabinets, remote IV checking, kit preparation services, electronic health record, etc.) Utilizes lean processes and continual improvement pillars to optimize these systems to support patient care / safety and optimization of workflows. Ensures compliance with state / federal documentation requirements regarding medication dispensing, controlled substances, etc. Provide constructive feedback to team members via quarterly check-ins, annual reviews, and as needed when required. Designs, establishes and maintains a pharmacy technician staffing and scheduling plan (including staffing when required) that effectively accomplishes the department's goals and objectives. Creation of, monitor, and evaluation of pharmacy technician training. Collaborates in the development and review of policies and procedures governing operations of the pharmacy department. Demonstrate and communicate knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence to ensure patient safety. Optimization of different applications related to pharmacy operational excellence including automated dispensing machines, IV management workflow system, inventory management / carousel, controlled substance applications and electronic medical record as it relates to pharmacy specific operations. In partnership with the operations manager, support the oversight, management, and development of the pharmacy technician staff. Communicates expectations, provides ongoing coaching / feedback, objectively assess employee performance and provide appropriate feedback. Perform regular rounds with staff to enhance employee engagement and celebrate individual and / or departmental successes. Provide feedback to operations manager as part of pharmacy technician performance evaluation(s). Minimum education : High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum experience : 2 years in a hospital pharmacy Training in all components of the pharmacy technician role including hazardous drug compounding and experience managing day-to-day operations of off-site infusion areas. Twelve consecutive months of employment as a pharmacy technician within the Connecticut Children's Pharmacy Preferred education / experience : Associates or Bachelor's Degree is highly preferred. Current State of CT Pharmacy technician license issued by the Department of Consumer Protection. Documented completion of IV training within the Connecticut Children's 797 clean-room. Pharmacy Technician certification (National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board - PTCB) within 1 year of hire Preferred : IV Certification Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system; Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and pharmacy information system Pharmacy Automation in an institutional setting Evaluating operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and work effectively with pharmacy technician and pharmacist staff. Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups of varying education levels Use independent judgment and to appropriately manage and impart information to a range of constituents. Foster a cooperative work environment. Manage competing priorities. Help create change within the department to reach the goals of the department / organization.

All activities are performed under the supervision of a pharmacist.
In addition to the roles of a pharmacy technician listed above, this position serves as part of the leadership team. These responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Serves as a liaison between pharmacy technicians and other team members within the department.
- Provides informal supervisory oversight and documentation of the following in collaboration with the pharmacy leadership team :
Day-to-day operations, scheduling, and staffing when required to meet department needs.
Reports to Pharmacy Manager of Operations. Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CCMC standards.

About the Team
The Pharmacy Department at Connecticut Children's provides pharmaceutical services for both inpatients and outpatients. The department is responsible for dispensing medications daily for our inpatient population with additional services provided in the outpatient setting. The department consists of clinical pharmacists, specialists, pharmacy technicians as well as support personnel, who work together to assure patients receive the highest quality pharmaceutical care possible.
