Job description

Position Overview

P.S. ARTS is seeking a hands-on, strategic, relationship-driven, and enthusiastic Advancement Director to join the senior management team and establish a fundraising infrastructure that supports P.S. ARTS’ mission and expansion. The Advancement Director (‘Director’) works closely with P.S. ARTS leadership and the Board of Trustees to develop and advance an overall organization budget of $5.5M+ that encompasses a diverse funding portfolio. This position will lead a development team and oversee all aspects of fundraising, events, and external affairs, including managing a portfolio of major gift prospects.

The Advancement Director will be responsible for creating and implementing the organization’s long-term fundraising vision and strategic direction and will achieve an annual fundraising goal currently set at $2.7M. The Advancement Director plays a central role in supporting the Board of Trustees in their responsibility as fundraisers and ambassadors. In collaboration with the CEO, this leader will be the staff liaison for the Board’s Governance committee and support trustee recruitment, orientation, training, and development. The Director will be responsible for bringing a strong equity lens to all fundraising initiatives and will have a passion for and excel in equitable fundraising strategies.

A successful Advancement Director will have a proven track record of thinking outside the box to engage donors, generate funds, and highlight seamless opportunities that secure major and transformative gifts to further advance the organization’s sustainability. They closely collaborate with the Programs team to support funding needs and priorities. This leader will demonstrate diplomacy in all professional interactions and can develop and implement a compelling financial vision. The Advancement Director aims to ensure that the organization’s fundraising strategies effectively align with and support the mission, goals, and initiatives of P.S. ARTS.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Fund Development, Strategy & Implementation

  • Develop and oversee the creation and execution of an annual advancement plan to meet annual organizational goals, currently set to $2.7M for FY24,  including outlining specific fundraising objectives, and corresponding revenue targets, addressing annual giving, campaign, and planned giving, and long-term, multi-year fundraising strategies
  • Engage with and cultivate relationships with donors, partners, and prospects while representing P.S. ARTS in the community and bringing further visibility to our work and impact in schools
  • Create and oversee advancement strategies, including long-term plans to increase fundraising goals, directly managing $10K gifts and above, and establish an organizational culture that incorporates a DEI lens within its fundraising activities
  • Support the organization’s DEI initiatives through related department activities, strategic planning, and DEI Committee work
  • Monitor and organize aspects of our endowment and other fundraising campaigns
  • Oversee aspects of all fundraising avenues – corporate, foundations, government, etc.

Individual Giving, Stewardship & Cultivation

  • Oversee an individual giving and major gifts program, identifying prospects, cultivation, and facilitating solicitation
  • Develop creative sponsorship packages that provide partners with measurable returns on sponsorship investment; and draft year-end reports and fundraising appeals for major gift donors
  • Manage a portfolio of $5,000+ donors and work to retain and establish growth opportunities over time
  • In partnership with the Program Director, regularly review funding needs and priorities, and identify and support (or implement) fundraising initiatives and opportunities within P.S. ARTS’ communities and for P.S. ARTS’ service population
  • Board Support & Governance

  • Work with the CEO to ensure Board development and engagement
  • Create a robust strategy and build capacity around systems that encourage the philanthropic participation of current Board members and volunteers
  • Recommend and develop board cultivation strategies, and provide the expertise, training, talking points, and support to cultivate their networks for impactful giving
  • Support the CEO in providing focus to the fundraising efforts of the Board of Trustees and act as lead staff liaison to the Advancement and Governance Committees
  • Team Leadership & Development

  • Hire, coach, evaluate, supervise, and support the Advancement team, promoting a positive department
  • culture, ensuring compliance, quality execution, and alignment with P.S. ARTS’ mission, vision, and
  • values
  • Provide stretch opportunities, and ongoing development to the Advancement team
  • Operate and manage initiatives that are grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion and model best
  • practices honoring the individual and collective needs of the communities and schools P.S. ARTS
  • partners with
  • Fundraising Events, Engagement & Marketing

  • Plan and execute donor cultivation and stewardship events – or as appropriate, oversee events in
  • partnership with the Development Manager
  • Participate in and represent P.S. ARTS at events (internal and external) as needed and develop and
  • maintain relationships with donors
  • Oversee the Development Manager in the planning and execution of Express Yourself 3 Grow, and
  • maintain the Vision & Action fund; measure the effectiveness of campaigns and the Arts Advisory
  • Council
  • Work with the Associate Director, Communications to develop fundraising marketing materials, design
  • a marketing and communication strategy for constituent engagement; leverage PR efforts to support
  • P.S. ARTS’ mission, and maximize exposure
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 5+ years of experience growing and leading a development team
  • 5+ years of senior management experience in non-profit fundraising
  • Direct experience cultivating and soliciting donations at the $5K level and up
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing strategies for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of individuals, corporations, foundations, and prospective board members
  • Demonstrated ability to work with non-profit boards and oversee board governance
  • Attention to detail, strong professional judgment  with experience developing and forecasting equity-centered budgets
  • Proficiency in donor management software, Raisers Edge preferred
  • Serve as a thought partner and value cross-collaboration with their day-to-day operations
  • Strong administrative and communication skills
  • An optimistic demeanor that is grounded in accessibility, care, and follow-through to represent P.S. ARTS and its values in public-facing opportunities with trustees, donors, volunteers, and constituents
  • Familiarity with the arts and arts education field is preferred

    Compensation and Benefits

    The compensation range is $137K - $147k and is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision,  and 10 days of paid vacation.

    Working Conditions :

  • Lift, push, or carry supplies, equipment, instruments, or classroom furniture up to 40lbs. Bend, twist, reach, stand, and / or sit for long periods.
  • View LCD screens for long periods, work with video equipment, and be comfortable with recording and / or being recorded.
