Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
- Master’s degree in Library and / or Information Science
- Valid Texas teaching and professional library certifications
Special Knowledge / Skills :
Ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face and online environmentsEffective human relations skills including communication and presentation skillsStrong organizational, communication, interpersonal and time management skillsAbility to problem solve collaboratively with various groupsKnowledge and training in all phases of school librarianshipAbility to serve as teacher, instructional materials specialist and library facility administratorExperience :

Program Management
Serve on decision making teams in the school and take an active role in school improvement activities.Share expertise by presenting at faculty, parent and district meetings.Create a climate in the library learning commons that reflect the philosophy of the school and district.Share with the learning community, collaboratively developed and up-to-date district policies, concerning materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use.Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning, providing 24 / 7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community.Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.Advocate for school library programs and the guiding principles of the school library profession.Ensure library program goals / objectives are aligned with school / district long range strategic plans.Prepare, justify and administer the school library budget to support specific program goals.Create / maintain a teaching / learning environment : inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to learning.Arrange : flexible scheduling of the library for student accessibility to staff and resources at point of need.Maintain lines of communication with the district information literacy program manager, including attendance at library meetings and in-services.Collaborate with teachers / students to design / teach engaging inquiry / learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies, critical thinking, promotes reading and lifelong learning.Provide / plan professional development in the school / district for / with all staff, and other LIS.Provide user guidance in reading, viewing and listening.Incorporate information literacy skills into library lessons.Evaluate, select and request materials for the purpose of developing and maintaining a collection of resources appropriate for the school community.Network and seek out other sources to provide information resources outside the school.Evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students and teachers and provide 24 / 7 access to library servicesUnderstand copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assist users with their understanding and observance of the same.Organize the collection for maximum and effective use.Other

Evaluation :
Performance in this role is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Library Information Specialist (LIS) Personnel.
