Metropolitan Community CollegeOmaha, NEPosting Summary Position Title Library Assistant Position Number 3868 Branch Academic Affairs Division Academic Success Department Library Job Description This position assists students, faculty, staff and community members in using library research resources to locate appropriate information and materials. The assistant teaches patrons how to use various print and electronic research tools such as digital magazines / journals / newspapers, eBooks, steaming videos, etc. This position assist users with MS Office Software, Email, Password Station, Canvas, AccuCampus, Student Links, Papercut and MyHub.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS :
1. Instructs patrons in using online library catalogs and databases to locate desired information.
2. Answers reference questions and provides other assistance to patrons.
3. Checks material in and out, updates patron records.
4. Handles intra-campus, interlibrary loan and film rental requests.
5. Prepares purchase requests for periodicals, books and supplies.
6. Assists with processing of materials for campus libraries
7. Operates and performs basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
8. Maintains various library records and statistics.
9. Intermittent guidance of work-study students.
10. Assists in maintaining the environment of the library.
11. Promotes library service to faculty, staff and students by assisting with special events and giving brief presentations.
12. Stays current with developments in library and information fields.
13. Attend work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge of library practices.
2. Knowledge of audiovisual equipment.
3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows software and skill in operating a personal computer.
4. Skill in interpersonal communications. Skill in the use of English spelling and grammar. Knowledge of test administration.
5. Skill in organization, time management and prioritization.
6. Ability to use active listening skills to answer questions and problem solve, and converse on the telephone and in person with employees, vendors and students.
7. Ability to write and maintain accurate records.
8. Ability to pay close attention to detail.
9. Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
10. Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations.
11. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
12. Ability to work with and communicate with members of a diverse culture in a courteous, professional manner.
13. Ability to express oneself clearly in written and oral communications.
14. Ability to move up to 20 lbs occasionally, and / or up to 10 lbs frequently.
15. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures & ethnicities.
