Position Overview, Position Duties and Responsibilities
Position : Library Technician
Location : Chicago, Illinois
Salary Range : CL 25-01 to CL 25-61 ($54,654- $88,808) depending upon experience and educational qualifications.

Job Summary
The Library of the U.S. Courts for the Seventh Circuit includes a headquarters library in Chicago and four branch libraries located in Milwaukee, Madison, South Bend, and Indianapolis. The Library Technician position is located in Chicago.
The Library Technician supports public services and technical services operations in the library. The incumbent reports to library administration, the Associate Circuit Librarian and Circuit Librarian.
Representative Duties :
- The incumbent will staff the reference desk and provide assistance to library visitors including court staff and public patrons.
- Work with the Technical Services Librarian to create purchase orders and communicate with vendors.
- Maintain CALR password records by adding / removing judicial externs as they arrive / depart the court.
- Conduct online searches to arrange for and maintain records of interlibrary loans.
- Library stack maintenance, including shelving, shifting, discarding books and shelf-reading.
- Assist with the disposal and excess program.
- Assists the Technical Services Librarian with inventories.
- Edit serial prediction records.
- Process new books and library materials (check-in, receiving, filing, etc.)
- Assist with basic research and services to court staff, including helping people find library materials.
- Maintain record of circulating materials within the court.
- Recommend improvements to operations and notify librarians of workflow problems.
- Communicate professionally with court staff and non-court staff visitors.
- Adhere to the Guide to Judiciary Policy and Judiciary Procurement Program Procedures regarding procurement practices.
