The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, implementation, security, ongoing support, and optimization of enterprise databases at Chugach Electric, supporting a mission-critical environment. This role ensures database reliability, performance, scalability, and efficiency while supporting application development, upgrades, and system enhancements. Additionally, the Database Administrator researches emerging technologies, evaluates system improvements, and provides expert guidance on database-related initiatives.
The DBA also researches and implements emerging database technologies and automation strategies ensuring alignment with industry best practices and business objectives.
A. Performs Personally
1. Controls and monitors system-level and database and security to enterprise production databases.
2. Directs, coordinates, creates and maintains database elements in all production networked databases.
3. Performs SQL database programming to provide data to front-end applications.
4. Responsible for the database backup and recovery, scheduling, and disaster prevention.
5. Responsible for adequate data retention on databases.
6. Monitors database performance and capacities, optimizing them for efficiency.
7. Provides in-depth technical support for resolving database-related problems.
8. Develops and maintains naming standards, in-house educational material and language interfaces to database as necessary.
9. Plans and implements installation and updates to the database software.
10. Acts as primary contact between Chugach and database software vendors for problem resolution, support and maintenance issues.
A. Minimum Qualifications
1. Five years of experience as a Database Administrator, of which two years must have been in an Oracle version released in the past ten years, and two years must have been in database design or database programming and development, all within an enterprise environment.
Bachelor's degree in computer Science or related field.
2. Four years of additional equivalent experience may be substituted for the required degree.
