Job Summary

Join UT Southwestern as a Locksmith in the Kep Shop department.

Required Experience and Education

  • Graduation from high school or vocational school and three (3) years experience as journeyman locksmith in a commercial, institution or healthcare setting.
  • TX State Locksmith License preferred, not required.

Job Duties

  • Assists in preparing plans and specifications for lock security systems, coordinating with departments concerned in determining kinds of controls required for security purposes and monitors transition from former key system to new one.
  • Maintains established key control systems, making changes when necessary either by issuing new keys or recoding locks.
  • Makes keys for padlocks, doors, cabinets, lockers, and desks selecting blanks, cutting and fitting keys locks. Unlocks locks when keys are lost or stolen.
  • Repairs and renovates locks on periodic basis or as needed. Installs, maintains, adjusts, services and resets all types of locks and locking equipment.
  • Adjusts and installs door closures and hinges.
  • Builds key tree systems for various renovations and projects.
  • Develops new master systems as needed for security purposes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
