The General Manager at our Windsor Locks, CT location plans, directs, and coordinates, through subordinate personnel, warehouse and freight cargo operations in a dynamic and fast-moving environment. Manages and motivates warehouse and airport ramp personnel in a 24 / 7 / 365 operation. Confers and cooperates with upper management in formulating administrative and operational policies and procedures. Analyzes records of daily operations to maintain knowledge of station activities. Reviews and analyzes expenditures, financial and operations reports to determine requirements for increasing profits. Prepares recommendations on findings for upper management evaluation. Recommends capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment which would increase efficiency and services. Approves requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies within limits of facility budget.
Maintain and control all required aspects of the operation in accordance with the corporate security program and TSA legislation. Ensure that the required company audit requirements are undertaken to ensure continuity and compliance at all times. Read, understand and clarify the implementation of the site-specific security plan and ensure that all WFS staff are issued with a relevant company ID and that they are required to display this identity badge. Enforces compliance of personnel with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations. Directs investigations into cause of internal and external complaints relating to the facility. May negotiate contracts with equipment and materials suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, lead and control staff to promote a workplace culture of teamwork, self-motivation, and pride within a diversified and multi-cultural work environment.
- Develop next level leaders and managers in both leadership and management skills.
- Supervise staff to meet business needs and facilitate successful outcomes by following carrier’s Service Level Agreement performance standards.
- Prepare various operational reports, providing weekly and monthly data regularly, including special reports requested on an ad hoc basis to senior leaders across the network.
- Ensure operational leadership is monitoring and instructing airport Ramp and Warehouse Agents to follow safety rules and safety standards that are in place.
- Participate in recruiting activities, interviewing candidates and making hiring decisions.
- Assist in employee relations and / or conflict resolution, prepare performance appraisals, provide input for counseling’s and terminations.
- Demonstrate diligence required to maintain security under Bradley Douglas International Airport (BDL), Airport Police, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and United States Customs / Border Protection (USCBP) Regulations and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Challenge any persons not displaying an airport I.D. badge within a WFS warehouse or any Airport Operational Area. (AOA).
- Maintain records and appointments necessary for employment on the airport such as airport badge appointments, USCBP interviews, or other government-required meetings.
