Classification : Exempt

Pay Range : $150 per class; 2 sections meeting about 33 times; approximately compensation for both sections : $10,000.

Position Summary

Presentation High School in San Jose, California is seeking a temporary, part-time Social Science instructor to join the Social Department in the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for an experienced, innovative teacher who is eager to develop classrooms of belonging where students are ready to take intellectual risks and put their learning into action in the “real” world.

The substitute will be responsible for teaching 2 sections of World History to students in grade 9. The curriculum is prepared but requires an enthusiastic and passionate teacher to help bring history alive. A Presentation Social Science department member will be teaching other sections of the course and will be available for collaboration.

Substitute teachers may also be requested to make themselves available in a reasonably timely manner for meetings with other faculty / staff regarding student support, interdepartmental collaboration, and also by students / parents at their request. Every effort may be made to accommodate substitute teachers’ schedules when scheduling these meetings.

Additional compensation is provided for professional development days, Graduation, etc. as applicable.

Duties and Specific Responsibilities

  • Organizational & Interpersonal Skills : Employ strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, ensuring effective and respectful engagement with the school community.

Requirements :

Education & Experience

  • B.A. degree and single-subject teaching credential or Masters Degree in Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Relevant teaching experience, preferably 5 or more years at the high school level
  • Familiarity with Culturally Responsive Teaching and Universal Design for Learning is a plus

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher : Social Science must be able to

  • lift and / or carry moderate weight insert appropriate weight (10 lb)
