The Company
Friedman Vartolo LLP is a fast-growing, New York-based law firm specializing in real estate and default services, with over 300 employees providing top-tier legal services to our clients in seven states. While our legal expertise sets us apart, it's our mindset that drives us forward. We bring a fresh, fast-paced energy that drives our momentum and shapes how we approach every challenge.
We are a company that chooses to dig deeper, solving problems at the root instead of settling for surface fixes. Here, there are no passengers because every individual adds value, owns outcomes, and moves the firm forward. With an underdog mentality, we embrace constant elevation, always sharpening, always climbing, and never coasting. When challenges come, we row together and lean in as one team to get the job done, no matter what.
The Position
We are seeking an experienced Loss Mitigation Paralegal to support foreclosure and default servicing matters. This role involves coordinating settlement efforts, managing critical deadlines, and serving as a key liaison between attorneys, borrowers, loan servicers, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a strong background in loss mitigation, is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within case management systems to ensure compliance, accuracy, and timely resolution of cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between attorneys, borrowers, loan servicers, and other stakeholders to ensure clear and effective communication throughout the settlement process.
- Coordinate settlement discussions related to court-ordered and non-court-ordered loss mitigation programs, working with all parties to identify viable resolutions such as loan modifications, forbearance, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure.
- Monitor and manage critical deadlines across the loss mitigation and foreclosure process, including application submission periods, appeal windows, and court-imposed deadlines.
- Track, document, and update all case actions to ensure timely responses, submissions, and completion of required tasks.
- Utilize CaseAware and other client systems (including LoanSphere, Tempo, and Equator) for case tracking, document management, and communication with clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of data across all client and internal systems, tracking case progress and maintaining alignment with internal procedures and client expectations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal or mortgage servicing environment, preferably in loss mitigation or foreclosure-related roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel for managing correspondence, workload, and document drafting.
- Strong working knowledge of CaseAware or other case management platforms such as LoanSphere, Tempo, or Equator is preferred.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively negotiate and coordinate with borrowers, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulations governing loss mitigation, including CFPB guidelines, HUD rules, and mortgage servicing compliance standards.
