The Corrections Licensed Practical Nurse works in close andimmediate contact with adults and children in custody on a daily basisproviding general and emergency nursing care in the Medical and Ambulatorysection of the Corrections Facility while maintaining facility securitystandards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, treat andevaluate the patient / inmate
- Integrates and implements referrals of inmates to the staffphysician, nurse practitioner, dentist, mental health professional
- Looks for signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient's condition and reports to RN and / orphysician
- Collaborates with RN regarding the plan of care according toevaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective / ineffective nursinginterventions
- Documents patient's response to nursing and otherinterventions
- Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipment
- Participates in infection control activities as directed byInfection Control Coordinator and / or nursing supervisor
- Participates in the orientation and continuing education ofstaff as applicable
- Participates in the Health Quality Improvement Program asapplicable
- Adheres to all facility policy and procedure
- Follow security guidelines and protocol on tools / sharpscounts and ingress / egress policies at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned / necessary
